► Chaotischer Urnengang in Zeiten der Cholera
In Haiti waren am Sonntag (28.) rund 4,6 Millionen Wahlberechtigte aufgerufen, neben einem neuen Staatspräsidenten auch sämtliche 99 Abgeordneten im Parlament sowie 11 der 33 Senatoren neu zu bestimmen. Die Wahl in Zeiten der Cholera war überschattet von schweren Ausschreitungen, Plünderungen und Einschüchterungen. Mindestens fünf Menschen kamen ums Leben, viele weitere wurden verletzt.
12 der 18 Kandidaten haben daher bei der provisorischen Wahlkommission CEP die Annullierung der Wahlen gefordert, darunter die drei aussichtsreichsten Kandidaten Mirlande Mani, Michel Martelly und Charles Henri Baker. Sie unterstellten der Regierung und der CEP eine “gemeinsame Verschwörung” zu Gunsten des Regierungskandidaten Jude Célestin, Schwiegersohn von Amtsinhaber René Préval.
Noch in der Nacht erklärte die CEP die Wahl jedoch für gültig. Nach letzten Schätzungen dürften Teilergebnisse im Laufe der Woche veröffentlicht werden, mit dem Endergebnis wird jedoch nicht vor dem 07. Dezember gerechnet.
